Special analysis by Pablo Milad on the La Roja crisis: “The bad results are due to the fact that this was not done before”

The president of the ANFP assures that his board of directors has no responsibility at present concerning the national team. It also targets clubs for their policies in the minor divisions.

The National Team crisis shakes the ANFP. In recent weeks, Ricardo Gareca’s continuity has been called into question. La Roja is last in the Qualifiers. After days of doubt, everything was resolved by a call between Pablo Milad and the coach. There, the helmsman of Chilean football gave him an ultimatum: Chile must save at least four points during the November expedition. Today, a week after the All Team defeat against Colombia, the Curican coach addresses the bad moment. In his analysis, he distances himself from responsibilities.

“The poor results of the national team come from an old process. Today’s results are due to what has not been done before, and what we are going to show is part of our concern for the future of Chilean football.” he underlined, within the framework of the Third International Football Congress, organized at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel by the Chilean Football Federation.

“Our intention is to cement deep roots that will give a strong trunk and a tree with fruit for tomorrow, we cannot stay in the golden generation. With the golden generation, we didn’t think about the future “We only live in the present and there are consequences.” he added.

In this sense, Milad highlighted the internal measures of the clubs. “When we see that 85 percent have no sports policy, what can we think of our youth football? What are these guidelines? As part of the project for players to reach the first team. Without policy, there are no results. If there is no hunger, there is no satiety afterwards” he indicated.

“A Uruguayan manager once told me ‘you’re not hungry’. They get a monthly fee and they are happy with it. But if that didn’t reach them, they would have to train players to sell, to survive, to sell. “We need to change that,” he added.

Furthermore, the former mayor spoke of the opening of the new Department of Football Sciences. “This sees the psychological part of the player, that little work is done in training. We discovered that the footballer has a low tolerance for frustration, based on an oversized ego. This oversized ego is damaged in any situation. This is even more true now that we live in a digital world, in which networks contribute to self-esteem or self-destruction,” he said.

Cordoba’s accusations

After Milad, it was Nicolás Córdova who spoke at the International Football Congress. He revealed that, during his tenure in charge of the youth teams, he received a door slam from a player. “Many footballers seem to be hanging around, but not all of them are selectable and not all of them want to play for Chile. You have to be super clear. “I’m open about it,” he began by saying.

“We had a problem with the under-16s. The player was on the list, he came from abroad and didn’t get on the plane to play with us. This is a reality, we should have changed it, sent a letter to Conmebol. He was not in the psychological state to play for a country that is not strictly his own. “You have to be careful,” he explained.

He then showed the footballers that they had given the green light. “Zidane Yáñez (U16) and Favián Loyola (U20) want to play for Chile and they have shown it. Some people want to be there, but it’s hard to find them. Also, we have to be sure that they are better than the ones we have here,” he added.
