Shovkovsky – about the match between Dynamo and Roma, Dovbik’s game and the war in Ukraine

The head coach of Dynamo Kyiv Alexander Shovkovsky attended a press conference on the eve of the match against Roma in the Europa League, where he answered questions from journalists.

– In the Ukrainian championship, Dynamo scored many points and conceded few, but in the European competition it was the opposite. What is the reason?

– You must understand what is happening in our country. We should be very grateful to our authorities, to the President of Ukraine, who by a strong decision allowed the Ukrainian Championship to take place. Take place in a country where there is a war.

Now all our teams have some problems – financially, logistically, attracting qualified foreign players. All this also leads to negative consequences for the quality of the game, which we want to show both in the Ukrainian championship and in European competitions.

The Europa League is the second highest ranking European Cup tournament after the Champions League. Here are the teams that, although they did not qualify for the Champions League, also play at a very high level and almost always play in European clubs. If we talk about football in Ukraine, then we talk about safety, and if we talk about an international tournament, then we get some experience and do everything in our power to grow, to reach the level of the same Serie A, which is among the top five. best leagues in Europe. This is an important experience for us, important matches, we see a potential opportunity and try to do everything to grow in matches with teams at the highest level.

I really hope that the war will end soon and we will be able to develop, do everything to achieve the European level, so that football in Ukraine reaches a high level.

– What impression did Roma leave you with against Inter? Did you see something new in this team game?

– In general, Roma did not score much, but also conceded very little. However, the percentage of shots on goal is very high. This indicates that Roma strive to play attacking, fast football. The team often scores in the second half – therefore, it is in good physical shape. Finally, a certain status quo has to be remembered: Roma has the same number of wins and losses.

As for the match between Roma and Inter, it was more or less equal. But there was an individual error: a Roma player slipped, which led to a quick counter-attack that allowed Inter to score a goal. At the same time, Roma also had a good chance to score an opponent’s goal.

Dovbik gave Roma more opportunities that the team used.

In short, I fully understand that a very difficult match awaits us with a team that represents one of the strongest leagues in Europe. We will try to use the moments we saw in the Roma game both in defense and attack,” said Shovkovsky.
