The match Lyon – Besiktas will take place tomorrow, October 24
Lyon limited the sale of tickets for the match Europa League against Besiktas due to security issues.
The top tier of the stadium will be closed and attendance will be limited to 30,000, with the club saying it has “decided to prioritize safety over profit”.
French authorities and Lyon are keen to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2017, when the two teams last met. The match was postponed after both groups of fans threw projectiles (firecrackers and flares) at each other in the north stand.
From Wednesday 23 October to Friday 25 October, Besiktas fans will be prohibited from visiting the stadium, congregating in the city center or using any transport links in the region (such as train stations and airports).
However, authorities are concerned that the ban will be ignored, leading Lyon to take more drastic steps to limit the number of tickets sold and to whom exactly they are sold, and the club itself will ban their resale altogether.
Lyon won both opening matches of the Europa League – 2:0 against Olympiacos and 4:1 against Rangers. Besiktas, in turn, suffered two defeats – 0:4 against Ajax and 1:3 with Eintracht.
The Lyon – Besiktas match will take place tomorrow, October 24. Start – at 22:00 Kyiv time.
