Former goalkeeper of Arsenal, Tavriya and Metalist – about the Roma – Dynamo match in the Europa League
Dynamo played third match of the main stage of the Europa League. In the capital of Italy Dynamo lost to Roma 0:1, and the outcome of the meeting was decided by the goal of the Ukrainian striker of the Romans Artem Dovbik in the middle of the first half. All significant moments match Roma – Dynamo we discussed with the current goalkeeper of Kolos-2 and the former goalkeeper of Arsenal, Tavriya, Metalist and Norwegian Bude-Glimt Sergei Pogorely.
— The starting lineup of Dynamo Kyiv, and even with three central defenders, probably no one would have predicted. Are you too?
– Certainly. For me personally, the choice of Alexander Shovkovsky was a big surprise. At first I thought that the main players were injured or damaged, but when they began to come on as substitutes in the second half, everything became clear. And the scheme with three central defenders became something new for Dynamo. I don’t remember when they played this way.
— Dynamo had a game in Rome with 65,000 spectators, but the coaching staff of our team probably sacrificed this match for the sake of the Ukrainian clasico with Shakhtar. Has anything like this happened before?
– I don’t remember. European Cup matches have always been more valued, we prepared for them carefully and wanted to demonstrate our maximum. In this game, from the first to the 39th minute, the Romans had the initiative. They played at home and started this match strong. Although to say that Neshcheret was constantly at work is not the way to say it. For me, the outcome of this fight could have been completely different. Dynamo could either draw or win. Tymchik and Guerrero had the best chances to score goals.
— The Italian press wrote all week that clouds were gathering over head coach Ivan Jurich. If he fails in games with Dynamo and Fiorentina, he will be dismissed. How would you rate Roma’s performance in this match?
— It seemed to me that Roma’s players did not play for the coach. Through, I can’t, I didn’t run in one episode or another. Yes, the hosts won, but that’s all. As for Dynamo, they left their motivation until Sunday, when they will fight Shakhtar. I think that Dynamo Kiev really wants to win the Ukrainian championship.

— As it turned out, the decisive moment of the match happened in the 22nd minute, when young Taras Mikhavko pulled the opponent’s shorts in his own penalty area. Is it all Mikhavko’s lack of experience?
– For me this is still childish. He has not yet become a real master. A couple of successful matches in the Champions League qualifying this summer do not allow us to say that Mikhavko is already a mature footballer. Journalists and experts have already screwed him up – he’s a master. But this is not the case yet. In that episode, a Roma player burst into the penalty area and pulled him by the shorts… There were still our players in front of the Italian football player, he would not have done anything there. For Mikhavko, this episode will be a lesson. I’m sure he has never played in such an atmosphere, in such stadiums, with 65,000 spectators in the stands. But you can’t hang all the dogs on him.
— In this match, Dynamo players shot twice into the opponent’s goal for the first time, let us remind you that in the matches with Lazio and Hoffenheim this was not even close…
“That’s true, but Dynamo still played toothlessly in attack. There were not many leading players in the starting lineup, and without them it was very difficult to come up with something. Our guys practically couldn’t hold the ball in the opposing half of the field. I believe that goalkeeper Neshcheret made more passes in the first half than the central midfielders and forwards combined.
— Did you like the match between Roma and Dynamo Kyiv?
– Not really. It didn’t look like a Europa League game. I saw the real intensity of the fight in the Champions League qualifying games, when Dynamo played against Partizan and Glasgow Rangers. There was passion there, a thirst for victory.
— Who will be the first Ukrainian team to win in Europe – Dynamo or Shakhtar?
— I think Dynamo. They will host Ferencvaros in the next match, and there we will already wait for the Kiev team to win.
— This coming Sunday in Kyiv, Dynamo will host Shakhtar as part of the 11th round of the UPL. Who is the favorite of this meeting?
— If Dynamo approach this game with maximum spirit and dedication, they will win the Clasico. If Alexander Shovkovsky’s team plays like in Rome, then the Dynamo-Shakhtar match will be recorded as a draw.
