Ponomarev: We scored a goal, but we didn’t have enough skill to hold on to the victory over Chernomorets

Rukh’s winless streak in the UPL reached six matches

Head coach Ruha Vitaly Ponomarev commented on the home draw against Chernomorets (1:1) in the 11th round UPL.

“This is an unsatisfactory result for us. Rukh should have won the match, because we had a gaming and territorial advantage. We scored a goal, but we didn’t have the skill to hold on to the victory. We still have a lot of work to do, because a lot is expected from these guys. At the same time, an experienced team in such a situation would not have lost the victory. Unfortunately, these mistakes cause the team to lose points. We have a difficult situation now, because Rukh has not won six matches already.”

“The team started the game against Chernomorets well and created chances. The ending of the first half did not turn out the way we wanted. In the first half, we couldn’t score a goal, so we released a striker after the break, because we hoped that Krasnopir would help us in attack. Igor didn’t succeed in everything in previous matches, but we have good players in attack to carry out the rotation.”

“We managed to score at the start of the second half. Then the situation was under our control, but the team needs to be able to take the blow if something suddenly changes on the field and bring the matter to its logical conclusion.”

“As for the inclusion of Klyver and Denis Slyusar in the starting lineup, these are the main players. We have players of approximately the same level, and Klyver needs to be given as many playing minutes as possible in order to progress. This also applies to other players receiving playing time.”

“We will prepare as usual for the cup game with Karpaty. We must analyze our game and analyze the last matches. The kind of goals we conceded in the matches against Karpaty and Chernomorets are not necessary. The reason for this is individual mistakes and the fact that players do not complete certain episodes, and they ultimately decide the fate of the match.”

Rukh’s winless streak in the UPL lasted up to six matches – the last victory of Vitaly Ponomarev’s team dates back to August 30, when Ingulets was defeated in Lviv (5:0).

The Lviv team is based on the 6th line of the UPL standings – they have 14 points scored.

In the next round of the UPL, Rukh will play an away match against Krivbass on November 4. Before this, Vitaly Ponomarev’s team will have a chance to take revenge on the Carpathians for their defeat in the last round of the championship – on October 29, both Lviv clubs will meet in the 1/8 finals of the Ukrainian Cup.
