The first meeting between Ukraine and Turkey ended in a draw – 1:1
Coach Ukrainian women’s national football team Vladimir Pyatenko commented on the draw with Turkey (1:1) in the first match of the first round of qualifying playoffs European Championship 2025.
“There were two different halves. In the first, the players fully implemented the game plan – they controlled the ball more often, played unconventionally on the flanks, and did well on rebounds. It is important that the territorial advantage was materialized into a goal scored.”
“It is possible that the girls prematurely believed that they could win without much difficulty. After the break, there was no longer enough concentration, a clear safety net, which the hostesses took advantage of, leveling the situation. There were also half-chances, but both teams failed to convert them. It’s a pity that we didn’t keep the winning score, now we’ll build on what we have.”
“It is important that there were no serious injuries, and in the return match, which will take place in the capital of Moldova on October 29, we can count on all the key players.”
In the middle of the first half, the blue-yellows took the lead thanks to an accurate shot from Daria Apanaschenko. Türkiye came back after the break through the efforts of Elif Keskin. The teams did not score any more goals – 1:1.
The return match between Ukraine and Turkey is scheduled for October 29. The match will take place in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, at the Zimbru stadium.
If successful, Vladimir Pyatenko’s team will play in the second round of selection with the winner of the Greece-Belgium confrontation. Matches in this stage will take place from November 27 to December 3.
In the second round of the qualifying playoffs, the direct participants of Euro 2025 will be determined. The draw for the final part of the European Championship will take place on December 16.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian team took second place in Group 4 of the League B qualifying tournament. The blue-and-yellows scored 11 points and let the Welsh team advance.
