One of the tasks of the group is recommendations based on the latest scientific research in the field of physical and mental health of players

Legendary coach of London Arsenal Arsene Wenger will lead FIFA Task Force on the welfare of football players.

World football’s governing body, guided by the decision of the FIFA Council and the updated FIFA Statutes that came into force in July 2024, is formally establishing a Player Wellbeing Task Force to facilitate further global dialogue on wellbeing issues with key stakeholders across all areas of football.

The head of the group will be a 75-year-old French specialist, who has been heading the FIFA department for global football development since 2019. It will also include representatives of member associations, confederations, FIFPRO, the European Club Association and the Association of World Leagues.

The task force’s objective is to examine how appropriate and effective guarantees can be implemented for players, taking into account practical considerations from an operational, medical, regulatory and legal perspective. In particular, the task force will have to prepare recommendations based on the latest scientific research on the physical and mental health of players. The group’s first meeting will take place in the coming weeks.

Wenger began his coaching career in his native France in the 1980s – Strasbourg U-19, Cannes (assistant), Nancy, Monaco (champion and winner of the French Cup). Arsene spent the 1995/96 season in Nagoya, Japan, Grampus Eight, after which he devoted himself to Arsenal for 22 years. The Frenchman won 17 trophies at the helm of the Gunners, including three Premier League titles. Led the team to the 2006 Champions League final.
