The Brazilian was left without the Ballon d’Or
Ukrainian goalkeeper Real Madrid Andrey Lunin supported his partner in the Madrid club – winger Vinicius Junior.
“Vinicius, you are number one, 100%,” the Ukrainian wrote on social networks, attaching a photo with Vinicius.
Vinicius was considered the main contender for the award. Initially, the presence of Real Madrid players in Paris was planned, but the Madrid club subsequently canceled the visit of its delegation to the ceremony. Presumably, Blancos knew in advance that the winger would not win the award.
The winner of the ZM-2024 was the midfielder of the Spanish national team and Manchester City, Rodri. Vinicius finished second, followed by his teammate Jude Bellingham in third.
In turn, Lunin was nominated for the first time for the Yashin Trophy award – the prize for the best goalkeeper of 2024. The Real Madrid goalkeeper eventually took a respectable third place, behind Spaniard Unai Simon and Emiliano Martinez.
