The former Red Devils striker asked the fans to continue to support the team.
After Manchester United fired Erik ten Hag as head coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy took over the team for some time.
The 48-year-old Dutchman’s first match in charge of the Red Devils will be Leicester City in the League Cup.
The Mancunians published a message from the team’s ex-forward to fans on their official website.
“As I’m sure everyone can imagine, I write these notes with a great deal of mixed emotions. Erik ten Hag brought me back to Manchester United last summer and although I’ve only been part of the coaching staff here for a few months, I will always be thankful to him for the opportunity given to me and I’m sad to see him go.”
“Even on a temporary basis, I am honored to manage the club that I love, however long I am asked to do so. I can promise that I will continue to give everything in whatever capacity I can to try and turn our fortunes around.”

“Despite our results, I love being back at Old Trafford and working with the team and staff every day. We have seen the potential of the team this season, but clearly not often enough.”
“Now is the time for everyone at the club to work together, give it our all and turn this season around while we still have time. “From my experience as both player and coach, I can say with confidence that when the players, staff and the fans are united, Manchester United are unstoppable.”
Each of our games is an opportunity to remind everyone – including ourselves – what this great club is worth. When I came back in the summer as Eric’s assistant, I believed United could get back to the level I knew here as a player. I still believe in it, but it will take time and a lot of effort.
“The first step is to get back into winning habits, starting tonight at Old Trafford. I know firsthand the positive impact our great fans have on the team, so I ask you to support the players as we fight together to take another step towards Wembley.”
The League Cup match between Manchester United and Leicester will take place on Wednesday 30 October. The starting whistle will sound at 21:45 Kyiv time.
