The legendary Argentinean prefers not to make plans, but to live for today
Football legend Lionel Messi shared his plans for the near future, noting that it is too early to make plans about participation in World Championship 2026.
“I don’t know if I will play at the 2026 World Cup. I am often asked about this, especially in Argentina. I hope to finish this year well and start the new year with good pre-season training, which I didn’t have last year due to all the travel.”
“Next I will see how I feel and what to do. We are close, but a lot of time will pass and anything can happen in football. I don’t think, I just live for today, without thinking about the future.”
In the summer of 2024, Messi became the champion of South America as part of the Argentina national team. He missed the national team’s September matches due to injury, but returned in October and staged a benefit performance against Bolivia (6:0) – three goals, two assists. Albiceleste confidently leads the South American qualification for the 2026 World Cup, gaining 22 points. The reigning world champions will next play Paraguay on November 15.
In the current club season, Messi played 20 matches, scored 20 goals and made 11 assists. Last week, Lionel’s assist helped Inter Miami beat Atlanta United (2:1) in the first leg of the round of 16 of the MLS playoffs. The return meeting will take place on November 3.
Previously, the club for which Ukrainian Sergei Krivtsov plays won the MLS regular championship. Inter Miami received a ticket to the 2025 Club World Cup.
