Lunin may leave Real Madrid next summer, despite contract extension – media

The Ukrainian does not agree with the role of Courtois’ backup, and Perez is ready to part with him for decent compensation

Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrey Lunin may leave Real Madrid at the end of the current season, despite a recently extended contract until 2030.

According to Spanish media, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez does not rule out the possibility of selling the player next summer.

Now Andrey is getting playing practice, replacing the injured Thibaut Courtois, but in general the situation is obvious: the Ukrainian is destined for the role of the Belgian’s backup, and if Lunin does not want to put up with it, he needs to leave.

After Lunin’s successful play last season, the media reported offers to Andrei from Manchester United, Bayern and PSG (the Parisians were allegedly ready to pay 18 million euros for the goalkeeper). Chelsea was considering paying 12 million euros for Lunin and returning Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Madrid club.

Representatives of Atletico Madrid, Betis, Juventus, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Newcastle also got in touch with Real Madrid. The latter two were reportedly ready to pay 25 million euros for the Ukrainian. Manchester City also considered the Ukrainian as an alternative to Ederson.

According to current information, Lunina is considering Porto as a potential replacement for Diogo Costa. For the transfer of the Ukrainian, the Portuguese giants can offer Blancos an amount of 20 million euros in the next summer transfer window.

This season, Andrei has appeared on the field three times wearing a Madrid club jersey. Lunin kept one clean sheet, but the Ukrainian also played in Real Madrid’s disastrous match with Barcelona (0:4). According to Courtois, Andrei is not to blame for the missed goals.

The Madrid club is in second place in La Liga after 11 rounds, six points behind Barcelona. Today the Spanish championship match Valencia – Real was supposed to take place, but it was postponed to an undetermined date (like a number of other matches in Primera and Segunda) due to a natural disaster – the DANA storm, which severely affected the south-east of Spain.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team will play the home match of the Champions League against Milan this coming Tuesday, November 5, starting at 22:00 Kyiv time.
