Fluminense terminated the contract with ex-Real defender Marcelo

It’s all because of the incident that happened during the match with Gremio (2:2)

Fluminense announced the termination of the contract with the defender Marcelo.

The blame for everything was an incident in the match of the 32nd round of the Brazilian Serie A against Gremio (2:2). Marcelo was supposed to come on as a substitute in the 89th minute and listened to the instructions of coach Mano Menezes, who at some point became angry and sent the player back to the bench. A few hours after the end of the match with Gremio, it was announced that the cooperation with the 36-year-old veteran was ending.

Marcelo is a graduate of the Fluminense club academy – he managed to make himself known in the first team, after which, at the age of 18, he went to Real Madrid.

With Blancos in 15 and a half years, Marcelo won 25 trophies, including a five-time Champions League winner. With a short transit through Olympiacos, the left winger returned to his home club in February 2023.

Marcelo’s contract with Fluminense was valid until the end of this year. This season, the defender played a total of 36 matches for the club in all tournaments, recording 3 goals and 2 assists.

Fluminense is based in 12th place in the Brazilian Serie A standings. Mano Menezes’ team will play their next match on November 9 against Internacional.
