The Ukrainian commented on the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia
Former first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on the Final WTA tournament V Saudi Arabia.
“I think a lot has been said about this already. As for me, we are obliged to popularize tennis; it should develop throughout the world. We have a responsibility to develop women’s tennis and women’s sports. And we must also do everything we can to introduce tennis to countries where the sport was not previously available or where access to it was limited. I think we have to do everything we can to make this sport grow and get more girls and more women involved.”
The WTA Finals tournament was scheduled to take place from 2019 to 2028 in Shenzhen, China. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the disappearance of tennis player Peng Shuai, the competition was canceled in 2020 and then moved to other cities. In April 2024, the WTA announced that Saudi Arabia would host the event until 2026.
The final WTA tournament in Riyadh runs from November 2 to 9. In the first round of doubles, Ukrainian Lyudmila Kichenok, together with Elena Ostapenko from Latvia, lost to the duet Katerina Sinyakova (Czech Republic) / Taylor Townsend (USA).
