The Ukrainian missed his 11-meter kick
Ukrainian defender Evgeny Cheberko along with Columbus Crew lost away in a penalty shootout New York Red Bulls in the second match of the 1/8 finals of the playoffs MLS — 2:2, 4:5 pen.
The first half passed without any goals scored. Shortly after the break, the visitors opened the scoring, the goal was scored by Maximilian Arfsten, who had come on as a substitute a minute earlier.
New York responded with penalties from Dante Vanzeir and Emil Forsberg. The hosts held onto the winning result for a long time, but in stoppage time Christian Ramirez equalized the score and sent the match into a penalty shootout.
Cheberko had a chance to bring victory to Columbus. Crewe led 4:3 in the penalty shootout, but the Ukrainian’s shot, which could have been the final one, was saved by the goalkeeper. Then Columbus failed to score twice more, and Daniel Edelman scored his own try.
New York won the first match 1:0. The Red Bulls won the series 2-0 and advanced to the quarterfinals. Cheberko’s team dropped out of the MLS playoffs.
