Pep recognizes the strength of the Portuguese club
Mentor Manchester City Pep Guardiola commented on the crushing defeat from Sporting (1:4) in the fourth round of the group stage of the Champions League.
“Such a defeat is difficult to explain. We started the match well, we had a very good first half, but in football you need to score goals. When you lose 1-4, all you can do is congratulate Sporting and learn from it.”
“We can’t argue – they won because they made very good transitions from defense to attack, especially with their first two goals. We weren’t good enough at finishing in the first half, and after the second goal we conceded we needed to do better.”
Pep’s team suffered a third defeat in a row in all tournaments this season. The victory for Sporting was brought by a goal from Maximiliano Araujo and a hat-trick from Victor Gyokeres.
The citizens occupy sixth place in the overall Champions League table. On November 26, Manchester City will host Feyenoord.
