Dynamo coach spoke about the upcoming rivalry with Ferencvaros and the support of fans in Hamburg
Head coach Dynamo Alexander Shovkovsky commented on the upcoming match against Ferencvaros in the 4th round Europa League.
“For the last six years, Ferencvarosi has constantly taken first place in the championship, constantly playing at a high level. Last season there were certain achievements in the form of a large difference in goals scored and goals conceded. The coach who won the last victory in the championship, unfortunately, decided to leave for a country that is now fighting against us. The new coach is from the Netherlands, under him the team shows a good game, tries to keep the ball and concedes few goals, with the exception of the last game with Debrecen, which ended in a 2:2 draw. Ferencvaros tries to play its own game with any opponent, has its own style. We tried to convey this to our players. Therefore, I think tomorrow there will be a very interesting, uncompromising fight.”
“It’s difficult for me to talk about the opposing team. This season they had the opportunity to strengthen themselves, inviting 6-7 players who in total cost about 10 million euros. The situation in our country does not allow us to carry out such a strengthening; we have the opportunity to play only with our students or Ukrainians. Of course, this leaves a certain imprint on our actions. While we are talking to you here at a press conference, in Ukraine, in particular in Kyiv, the air raid warning is sounding again.”
“For our young players, this is certainly a great experience and a good opportunity to experience the high level of matches in international tournaments, in particular the Europa League. If we want to develop, we must constantly improve and play with high-quality teams. For Ukraine and Ukrainian football, this is very important, despite everything that is happening, to show that we will fight to the last with all our might for what is important to us. This applies specifically to football, and to other things in general.”
“Of course, the situation would be completely different if we played in Kyiv with the support of our fans, at the almost filled Dynamo stadium. Valery Lobanovsky or NSC Olympic. We thank Hamburg for welcoming us and doing everything possible to make us feel at home here. This is very important for us. In general, I want to thank all of Germany for the support that we constantly feel from you. But no matter how much we say that we are playing at home, in reality this is not entirely true.”
The current coach of Ferencvaros is the Dutchman Pascal Jansen. Last season, Fradi was led by the famous ex-footballer Dejan Stankovic, whose next job was Spartak Moscow. Previously, at the very beginning of the decade, the Hungarian grandee was led by the Russian Stanislav Cherchesov. From 2018 to 2021, the head coach of Ferencvaros was Sergei Rebrov, Shovkovsky’s ex-partner at Dynamo and the Ukrainian national team. Under him, the Budapest club played in the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in 25 years.
Let us recall that in the three starting rounds of the Europa League, Shovkovsky’s team invariably lost, and each of the defeats was with a clean sheet (0:3 from Lazio, 0:2 in the game with Hoffenheim and 0:1 against Roma). In the overall standings, the white-blues are in penultimate 35th place, ahead of only Karabakh.
The Dynamo – Ferencvaros match will take place in Hamburg tomorrow, November 7. Start – at 22:00 Kyiv time. The match will be officiated by Swedish referee Mohammed Al-Hakim.
