The Swede’s hat-trick helped the Lisbon club sensationally defeat Manchester City
Attack Sporting Victor Gyokeres recognized as the best player of the week (4th round) Champions League.
The 26-year-old Swede, we recall, scored a hat-trick against Manchester City on Tuesday, which allowed his team to sensationally beat one of the strongest clubs in the world with a big score. Moreover, this victory was a strong-willed one for Lviv.
In the voting, Victor was ahead of another scorer of three goals in the 4th round, Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, the main character of the home match against Bayer (4:0). The third and fourth places were taken by the authors of the doubles – Nicolas Kühn from Celtic and Karim Konate from Salzburg. Their teams beat Leipzig (at home) and Feyenoord (away), respectively, with the same score 3:1. At the same time, the Ivorian had an excellent chance to score a hat-trick, but hit the crossbar from the penalty spot.
Gyekeres, who has already scored 23 goals in 17 matches this season (and also provided 4 assists), is in solid company with Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund and Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid – all of them were recognized as players of the week this season in the main European Cup.
The Swedish forward is a football player with a non-trivial career path. Before moving to Sporting (summer 2023), his record included Brommapojkarna, Brighton, St. Pauli, Swansea and Coventry. Transfermarkt currently values the scorer at 70 million euros, and his clause is worth a hundred million. Top Premier League clubs include Győkeres on their shortlist, and Barcelona is also interested in transferring Victor.
Liverpool is the only one that, after the first four rounds, goes without losses in the 2024/25 Champions League. Sporting are in second place overall, with the best goal difference among the four teams with 10 points each. In the fifth round, Győkeres’ team will host Arsenal.
