Rodri leads Vinicius by 41 points in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting

Each of the 99 jury members named their top ten candidates, first place was worth 15 points

Prize winner Ballon d’Or 2024 Rodri and “silver” medalist Vinicius Junior in the final vote divided the total 41 points.

This gap is not a record smallest in the history of the award, but it still has the right to be considered insignificant, especially in view of the new voting system, where each of the 99 jury members names their top ten candidates, and the first place is worth 15 points. The second score is 12 points, the third score is 10, then 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point.

Let us remind you that Manchester City midfielder Rodri became the main winner of the ceremony held on October 28 at the Chatelet Theater in Paris. For the first time in his career, the Spaniard won the most prestigious individual award in world football, ahead of three Real Madrid representatives – winger Vinicius Junior, midfielder Jude Bellingham and defender Dani Carvajal.

Initially, the presence of Real Madrid players in the French capital was planned, but the Madrid club subsequently canceled the visit of its delegation to the ceremony. Presumably, Blancos knew in advance that winger Vinicius Junior, considered the main contender for the award, would not receive the Ballon d’Or.

Spain’s Aitana Bonmati won the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row. Lamin Yamal took the prize for the best young player, Kane and Mbappe shared the trophy for the best scorer, Emiliano Martinez became the best goalkeeper of the year (Ukrainian Andrey Lunin was third), Real Madrid was recognized as the best men’s club, and his mentor Carlo Ancelotti was recognized as the best coach.

In addition, Spaniard Jennifer Hermoso received the Socrates Award for her contribution to the development of women’s football and the fight against sexual violence.
