De Zerbi’s team missed the opportunity to get closer to PSG and at the end of the round risks falling out of the top 3
Marseilles in the opening match of the 11th round of the French League 1 unexpectedly gave in Auxerre at home – 1:3.
In the first half, the Provencals had an overwhelming territorial advantage, they shot on goal more often, but only the guests scored goals. In the opening of the match, Lassin Sinayoko opened the scoring, and just before the break, Auxerre completely shocked the inhabitants of the Velodrome, bringing the score to a large one.
In the second half, Olympic attacked desperately, created several good chances, but managed to score only once, and only from the penalty spot. Mason Greenwood, by the way, scored his 8th goal in the championship, equaling Bradley Barcola from PSG at the top of the list of scorers.
It is curious that Marseille performs much worse at home than away – only one win out of five possible, five points scored – exactly three times less than away.
Roberto De Zerbi’s team missed the opportunity to halve the gap from the leading Paris Saint-Germain and at the end of the round risks falling out of the top 3. For this, it is enough that Monaco does not lose to Strasbourg, and Lille defeats Nice.
In the next round, Marseille will play Lens away, and Auxerre (6th place) will host Angers.
