Ex-Milan coach Giampaolo officially takes charge of Lecce

The parties entered into a contract until the end of this season with the possibility of extension for another year

Lecce announced the appointment Marco Giampaolo for the post of head coach.

The parties entered into a contract until the end of this season with the possibility of extension for another year.

As head coach of Lecce, Giampaolo replaced Luca Gotti, who was fired after a home draw in the last round against Empoli (1:1).

Marco Giampaolo, 57, has been unemployed since October 2022 when he was sacked from Sampdoria. Before this, the specialist worked with Empoli, Torino, Cremonese, and in 2019 he was appointed to the post of head coach of Milan, but lasted only a little more than three months in the position.

Lecce failed at the start of this season – after 12 rounds, the Salentines scored only nine points and are now in the Serie A relegation zone.

Lecce will play its debut match under the leadership of Giampaolo on November 25 away against Venice.
