Amorim officially started working as head coach today
Manchester United officially announced his separation from Ruud van Nistelrooywho has been acting as head coach of the first team for the past two weeks.
Along with the 48-year-old specialist, his compatriots Rene Hacke, Jelle ten Rouvelaar and Pieter Morel also left the club. All four were previously part of the staff of Erik ten Hag, who was fired on October 28. The full composition of the new coaching staff will be announced shortly.
Back on November 1, Manchester United announced that Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon would become the new head coach, and, as previously agreed, the Portuguese began his duties only today, November 11.
Just the day before yesterday, van Nistelrooy stated that he intended to remain at the club as Amorim’s assistant. However, according to British media reports, the Portuguese specialist decided to radically update the coaching staff, and therefore initiated a separation with van Nistelrooy, as well as Haque, ten Rouvelaar and Morel.
Ruud, a former prolific goalscorer, joined the Red Devils this summer, signing a two-year contract as assistant coach. Previously, the ex-striker already had experience working as the main player at PSV – in the 2022/23 season, van Nistelrooy won the Super Cup and the Dutch Cup.
Over the past two weeks, as an… O. The Dutch specialist significantly improved the results of Manchester United, achieving three victories (in the League Cup, League Cup and Premier League) with one draw (with Chelsea – 1:1) with a total difference of 11:3.
Manchester United are now 13th in the Premier League standings with 15 points. Amorim will make his debut at the helm of his new club in an away match against Ipswich on November 24.
