Atlético-MG would not have correctly made the payment to River Plate of some installments related to the sale of Nacho Fernández to the club
THE Atlético-MG was charged by River Platefrom Argentina, at FIFA, for the purchase transaction of Nacho Fernández. The Minas Gerais team had practically left behind the debts protested in the entity’s courts, but now it has again faced an obstacle related to its accounts in the acquisition of players.
According to the journalist’s information Lauro Jardim, from the newspaper “O Globo”, the Brazilian team would be negotiating a solution regarding this case that still has to be judged in the first instance. The debt questioned by River Plate to the Atlético-MG would be around US$ 2.5 million, around R$ 12.4 million at the current price.

Thus, they are related to some installments in arrears in the agreement that involved the purchase of shirt 26 at the beginning of 2021. At the time of purchase, Nacho Fernández was considered one of the most expensive players in the history of Galo. Although the value of the debt was disclosed by the journalist, the total figures for the negotiation are still unknown.
What is known is that at the time the agreement was closed, information circulated in the press was that Atlético-MG would pay a total of US$ 6 million to remove one of Argentina’s most fundamental players. Regarding the debt, there was still an attempt to reach an agreement between the parties, but River Plate decided to go to FIFA to collect it.
The publication also highlights that so far there is no deadline for the judgment of the case to take place in the first instance, but the tendency is that it will most likely be judged in the Players Status Chambers. It is worth remembering that for some time the CAS has not scheduled a hearing in which Atlético-MG is part of the judicial appeal.
This same trend is observed in FIFA. To have a dimension, in the balance sheet for the first half of 2021, the Minas Gerais club reported that it had paid BRL 63 million of the total liabilities to FIFA in December 2020, something around BRL 70 million. Thus, the situation in the entity remains under control, although Galo has to deal with this impasse with River.
