Kostyuk: After the vacation, personal circumstances do not allow me to take part in competitions

The first racket of Ukraine will miss the playoff match of the Billie Jean King Cup with Austria

The first racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk said that due to personal circumstances she will not be able to play in the playoff match Billie Jean King Cup with Austria.

“Dear fans and cheerleaders, I want to inform you that I will not be able to join the national team at the Billie Jean King Cup tournament, although I sincerely dreamed of this. After a long-awaited vacation, personal circumstances do not allow me to take part in competitions, but my heart is with our team and the fans who support us.”

“I sincerely believe in the success of the girls and wish them strength and victories. Thank you for your understanding and warmth – I’m looking forward to the moment when I can go on court again as part of the national team for you,” the tennis player wrote on social networks.

Instead of Kostyuk, Anastasia Lopata was called up to the national team. Let us remind you that the 19-year-old Ukrainian won her first title in her professional career at the end of October.

Lesya Tsurenko, Katarina Zavatskaya, Anastasia Soboleva and Nadezhda Kichenok will also play for the blue-yellows. The captain of the Ukrainian team is Ilya Marchenko.

The matches will take place on the hard surface of The Courts in McKinney, Texas, USA. The confrontation between Ukraine and Austria will take place on November 16 and 17. The winner of this meeting will qualify to compete in the 2025 World Finals qualification.

For the third year in a row, Ukraine failed to make it to the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup. In 2022, our tennis players lost to the US team, and in 2023 – to the Czech national team. In August 2024, the Ukrainians lost to Romania (2:3), losing their lead of two winning games.
