The general director of the Belgian Football Federation, Peter Willems, tried to convince the Real goalkeeper during a personal meeting in Madrid
Goalkeeper Real Madrid Thibaut Courtois did not change his decision regarding refusal to speak for Belgium national team with the head coach Domenico Tedesco.
Belgian FA director general Peter Willems met with Courtois in Madrid to test the waters for a return to national team action. The 32-year-old goalkeeper again confirmed that he does not intend to return to the team under this specialist.
In August, Courtois said that “his lack of confidence in Tedesco will not contribute to maintaining the necessary atmosphere” and refused to play for the national team under his leadership.
Due to a torn cruciate ligament and meniscus injury during last season, Courtois missed Euro 2024. At the tournament, the main goalkeeper of the Belgian national team was Al-Qadisiyah goalkeeper Ken Castells, who continues to be the team’s number one under Domenico Tedesco.
Belgium will play their next match on November 14 at home against Italy in the 2024/25 Nations League, after which they will visit Israel on November 17.
