Barcelona may offer Szczesny contract extension

The Pole has never played for Blaugrana yet, but the club is happy with his role and attitude

Barcelona plans to negotiate with the goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in order to extend the contract for another season.

According to Spanish media, the Catalan club is happy with the experienced Pole, who has not yet played a single minute for his new club, but is extremely professional in his approach to the job and correctly understands his role in the team. This is confirmed by Deco, Blaugrana’s sporting director.

Ter Stegen, who suffered a serious knee injury in September, will not recover until the summer, and it is unknown how long it will take for the German to fully return to form. At the moment, the Barça goal is constantly defended by Iñaki Pena (11 matches, 5 clean sheets), but his contract expires in 2026, and it is not a fact that yesterday’s understudy will want to remain in the shadow of Ter Stegen.

Let us remind you that Barcelona urgently signed the 34-year-old Szczesny on October 2. A contract was signed with the Pole until June 30, 2025. It was previously reported that Wojciech agreed to the role of Barcelona’s second goalkeeper. Before this, in August, Szczesny managed to announce the end of his playing career.

Barcelona leads La Liga with 33 points. In the next round, the blue garnets will play away at Celta on November 23.
