The future salary and clause of the Georgian winger remain the subject of discussion, while Barcelona and PSG are interested in him
Napoli can’t make progress in negotiations with its leader Khvichy Kvaratskhelia about contract extension.
Judging by the signals coming from the club, the Georgian midfielder may be put up for transfer next summer if an agreement on a new contract is not reached before then.
The sports director of the Neapolitans, Giovanni Manna, commented on the situation:
“We want to celebrate his journey to Napoli because he deserves it. In addition to the fact that he has two more years on his contract beyond this season. We want to give him the award, but there’s an extra dynamic here. There’s no pressure on us, we don’t have any time frame to complete this. We talked about it, if everything goes well for them, we will sign a contract, if not, we’ll talk about it in June. However, now we want to focus on the pitch.”
The current contract of 23-year-old Khvichi with the club runs until the summer of 2027. One of the important points of discussion is the football player clause, which will be spelled out in the new contract. It is reported that Kvaratskhelia’s side insists on a compensation amount of 80 million euros, while the position of the Napoli management is different – no less than 120 million.
Moreover, according to recent reports, the Georgian winger’s salary is a stumbling block in the extension of the agreement with Napoli. It is reported that the player himself wants to receive 8 million euros per year, while the Neapolitan club is not ready to offer him an annual salary of more than 6 million (excluding bonuses). At the same time, Kvaratskhelia’s current salary is only 1.8 million, which clearly does not correspond to the level of his talent and status as the team leader.
An additional lever of pressure is the substantial interest in Khvicha from European top clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
This season, Kvaratskhelia played 14 matches for Napoli, scoring 5 goals and 2 assists. In the 2024/25 Nations League, Khvicha played all six matches (five without substitution), scoring a goal and an assist in the opening match against the Czech Republic (4:1). In two confrontations with the Ukrainian national team (0:1, 1:1), the winger did not show any effective actions. Following the results of the group tournament, Georgia took third place in its quartet (Ukraine is second) and will now play in the playoffs for the right to remain in Division B.
Napoli is the leader of Serie A based on the results of 12 rounds – it has 26 points. At the same time, there is such a high density at the top of the table that only two points separate the Parthenopeans from sixth place.
Antonio Conte’s team will play their next match on November 24 at home against Artem Dovbik’s Roma.
