The Romans will not renew the agreement with the Argentine, who is claimed by Boca Juniors
Midfielder Roma Leandro Paredes announced that he will remain with the team until the end of the season 2024/25.
It is reported that the club does not intend to activate the option of a one-year contract extension with the Argentinean, which expires in June next year. Thus, it is obvious that Paredes will leave Roma as a free agent in July.
It was previously reported that his home club Boca Juniors is monitoring the situation with the midfielder. It is possible that the Argentine giants will get Paredes for free in the summer.
30-year-old Paredes is spending his second season in Rome (he previously played for Wolves in 2014 – 2017). In the current campaign, either under Daniel de Rossi or under Ivan Juric, the 2022 world champion and 2024 Copa America winner is not a starter.
In all tournaments for the first team, Leandro entered the field seven times, playing only twice from the first minutes. He scored one assist. On eight occasions he sat on the bench, not even appearing as a substitute. This fall, Paredes also lost his place in the Argentine national team – five appearances in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, of which only one was in the starting lineup.
Roma is having an extremely unsuccessful season – 13 points after 12 rounds and a place in the bottom half of the standings. In the Europa League, the Giallorossi won only one victory in four rounds – and that was minimal, over the main outsider of the general stage Dynamo (1:0), with the winning goal of the Ukrainian Artem Dovbik.
In just a few months, the team changed its head coach twice: in September De Rossi was fired from the capital club, and on November 10 his successor Jurich lost his position. On November 14, the legendary Claudio Ranieri took over Roma until the end of the season. On November 24, the Roman team will play away against leading Napoli.
