Earlier it was reported that the parties agreed to extend the relationship for a year with the option of extending it for another season
Manchester City officially announced the conclusion of a new two-year contract with the head coach Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard will continue to hold his position until the summer of 2027.
Let us remind you that it became known earlier that the City agreed with the 53-year-old specialist to extend the contract until the summer of 2026 with the option of extending it for another season. It was also reported that the new contract will not contain a clause on early termination in the event of a forced relegation of the team to a lower division due to possible sanctions for financial violations.
Guardiola himself said about this:
“Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing moments together. I really have special feelings for this football club. That’s why I’m so happy to stay for two more seasons.”
“Thank you everyone for continuing to trust me and support me – […] to everyone associated with Manchester City. It has always been an honor, a pleasure and a privilege to be here. I’ve said this many times, but I have everything a manager could want and I really appreciate it. Hopefully we can now add more trophies to those we have already won. That will be my goal.”
Pep has been vague about his future at City this summer, saying he is “closer to leaving than staying” and has no intention of coaching City for another eight years.
Guardiola has been in charge of Manchester City since 2016. Under the leadership of the Spaniard, the Citizens became champions of England six times, won two FA Cups and four English League Cups, won the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and also won a number of other trophies (18 in total).
Manchester City, which is in second place in the Premier League (minus five points from Liverpool) and has lost four matches in a row for the first time in 18 years, will play its next match on November 23 at home against Tottenham.
