Earlier, Zhilei spoke favorably about a possible fight with Jake, who defeated the legendary Tyson on points.
IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO) spoke about challenging the showman, Youtube blogger and boxer to a fight Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KO).
“If Jake wants it with me, he can have it… We wrote to him, my dad and we all decided, ‘Yeah, let’s call him.’ Even if it’s just advertising, you never know what can happen in this sport. Strange times.”
Earlier, former interim WBO heavyweight champion Zhang Zhilei admitted that he would not mind fighting Paul in the ring, frankly stating: “Who doesn’t want money?”
Let us remember that on the night of November 16, 27-year-old Paul defeated the legendary Mike Tyson by unanimous decision. The 58-year-old veteran held out against the young opponent for all eight two-minute rounds. For Jake, this victory was the 11th in his career; Tyson lost his seventh professional fight.
Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua on September 21 in London. Daniel defended the IBF champion title, which he received after Alexander Usyk abandoned him. This fight set a new record for the largest number of spectators in the 21st century for a boxing match – the boxing evening at Wembley Stadium in London was attended by 98,128 people.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn previously stated that the fight contract included a rematch option. However, Bob Arum denied this statement, calling it “fiction.” Subsequently, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al al-Sheikh, said that a rematch between Dubois and Joshua could take place on February 22 in Riyadh as part of the previously announced 5-on-5 event between Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing.
As recently reported, Dubois expects to defend his title in February 2025, as the IBF will oblige the boxer to do so. However, a potential unification fight for the title of absolute world champion could adjust plans. Therefore, Daniel is awaiting the outcome of the fight between WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight world champion Alexander Usik and former WBC belt holder Tyson Fury (date – December 21), counting on a fight with the winner of this megafight.
