Rebrov: The confrontation with Belgium will not be easy. There are no weak opponents in the Nations League playoffs for the right to advance to Division A

The coaching staff of the blue-yellows is well aware of the style and strengths of the Belgian team, which Ukraine met at Euro 2024

Head coach Ukrainian national team Sergey Rebrov commented on the results of the playoff draw for the right to enter Division A League of Nations. Let us remind you that the blue-yellow team got the opponents Belgium.

“The draw is always a challenge, especially when it comes to teams of such a level as the Belgian national team. We know this team well, having already met them at Euro 2024, so we have an idea of their playing style and strengths.”

“Of course, this will be a difficult confrontation. There are no weak opponents in the Nations League playoffs for the right to advance to Division A. Serbia, Belgium, Hungary, and Scotland are teams of the elite group. Therefore, we take every match with such opponents as an opportunity to test ourselves and take a step forward.”

Ukraine received perhaps the strongest opponent out of four possible ones. In addition to Belgium, Rebrov’s team could also face Hungary, Serbia or Scotland as opponents.

The blue-yellows met with Domenico Tedesco’s team quite recently, in the 3rd round of Euro 2024 – then a goalless draw (0:0) was recorded, which left Ukraine outside the playoffs of the continental championship.

The 2024/25 Nations League playoff matches will take place on March 20 and 23. In the first match, the Ukrainian national team will be the hosts, the return match will take place on the Belgian field.

Let us remind you that on November 19, Ukraine completed the group cycle of the League of Nations. Thanks to the victory over Albania in the final round (as well as the Czech Republic’s victory over Georgia in a parallel match), Rebrov’s team finished in second place in group B1. Over six rounds, Ukraine scored eight points, recording two wins, two draws and two losses.

The Belgian national team took third place in Group 3 of Division A, gaining 4 points. France and Italy advanced from the quartet to the quarterfinals of the League of Nations, while the Israeli team dropped to Division B.
