The son of the ex-Kiev striker intends to grow and progress
19 year old attacking midfielder Dynamo Kyiv Roman Salenko For the first time in his career he played for the main team of the capital team. This significant event for Roman took place in the 90th minute of a home match with Chernomorets (3:1). After the final whistle of Maxim Kozyryatsky, Salenko was in great demand among journalists in the mix zone of the Dynamo stadium named after Valery Lobanovsky.
— Roman, everyone knows your father, who left a big mark in the history of Dynamo Kyiv. Today you played for the first time in Dynamo’s main squad. How does it feel?
— When I came on as a substitute, I was worried. And now I’m happy that I made my debut in the first team. Dad wasn’t at the stadium, but he watched the fight on TV.
— Did you know before the match that you would make your debut in the main squad today?
– No. I’ve already been a substitute several times. You should always be ready for the head coach to put you on the football field.
— How many years have you been playing in the Dynamo team? U-19?
— The third season is already underway.
— Today Dmitry Mikhailenko, head coach of the Ukrainian national team (U-19) gave an interview in which he said that many Dynamo and Shakhtar players play two or three seasons in this championship. He sees this as a problem, as the level of competition is very low. What do you think?
— Dynamo U-19 always plays to win the Ukrainian championship. We play in the Champions League, where we compete against peers from the best teams in Europe. Although I understand Alexander Shovkovsky, it’s not easy to entrust a place in the main lineup to a young guy. I will grow and progress.
— Do you have a chance to prove yourself in the main team of Dynamo Kyiv before the end of this season?
– Of course, I have a chance. Everything will depend on how I work in training.
— Isn’t it psychologically and physically difficult for you to switch from youth football to adult football?
– It’s not difficult for me. This is not the first day I have been training with foundation. So far so good.
— So far, not everything is going well for Dynamo in the Europa League. Do you have an answer to this question?
— Traveling to Europe for our football players is a rather tiring thing. Although it seems like a cliché. I can’t say that we played poorly in all matches, but we lacked luck. Already in the next fight with Victoria we can reverse this unsuccessful streak.
