The Mexican was injured in a fight with Tevin Farmer in mid-November
“Interim” WBC lightweight champion William Cepeda (32-0, 27 KO) suffered a hand injury. His fight with the WBC belt holder Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) postponed indefinitely.
“Cepeda was injured. He injured his hand. We are looking at when to reschedule the fight because this is the fight Cepeda wants,” said Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez.
The Mexican injured his hand in a fight with Tevin Farmer in a fight on November 16. Cepeda defeated the American in this fight by split decision and became the mandatory challenger for the WBC lightweight title.
Stevenson defended the belt in July, defeating Artem Harutyunyan by decision. Shakur was preparing for a fight against former IBF super featherweight champion Joe Cordina, but was injured and underwent surgery. The fight against Cepeda was scheduled for February 22, 2025.
