Shishchenko: I think that the second half was ours, we played very powerfully. We had an advantage, but we couldn’t translate it into victory

Head coach Obolon Sergey Shishchenko commented on the home defeat Krivbassa (0:1) in the 14th round UPL.

“A very cool match played by us. We really wanted to win because we need points to get out of this situation. We prepared very fruitfully for Krivbass, analyzed their game, the problems they have in the game, we wanted to use these moments. But we failed to convert those approaches to the opponent’s goal into goals today. One mistake led to us losing the match today. I am very grateful to the guys for their attitude and for the game, this is a very disappointing defeat. I think the second half was ours and we played very powerfully. We had an advantage, but we couldn’t translate it into victory.”

“We work very hard in training. This week the guys worked a lot with the ball in positional attacks, because we understood that Krivbass sits very low when the opponent has the ball. That’s why these positional attacks were very important to us. We trained every day this week, and we did very well. Why is this? So that when there are such moments as there were in the second half, so that the guys understand how to act in a given situation. Indeed, we had good approaches, but the quality of completion was problematic. We will analyze and improve this during the training process.”

“I’m surprised that they weren’t so aggressive, because I know how Kryvbas can play. This, of course, is our merit, because we did not let them play as they planned. They have very fast players in attack, so I was surprised that they didn’t play so expressively in attack.”

Obolon continues to be in the direct relegation zone – the Brewers have only 9 points scored after 14 rounds.

Until the end of the first part of the season, Sergei Shishchenko’s team has only three games left – against Left Bank, Kolos and Rukh. Obolon will hold the Kiev derby against the Left Bank on Saturday, November 30.
