The American duo Hailey Harvard and Kylie Kuyavi-De Berg were beaten in the final
Ukrainian athletes Marina Gladun And Tatiana Lazarenko for the first time in their careers they won gold at a challenge-level tournament as part of Beach Volleyball World Tour.
The Ukrainians started the tournament, which took place in India, as the 11th seed. At the group stage, Gladun and Lazarenko met with pairs from Thailand, Finland and Lithuania. Having achieved two victories with one defeat (from Finnish opponents), the Ukrainian duo entered the playoffs of the competition.
In the 1/8 and 1/4 finals, Marina Gladun and Tatyana Lazarenko alternately beat their rivals from Austria. In the semifinals they were stronger than the Americans Molly Shaw and Toni Rodriguez (21:16, 21:17), and in the final they were opposed by another duo from the USA – Haley Harvard and Kylie Kuyavi-De Berg.
In the opening game of the final match, the Ukrainians managed to make a comeback. Losing 17:20, Gladun and Lazarenko eventually won with a score of 23:21. The second game turned out much simpler for Marina and Tatyana than the previous one – they won 21:17, winning gold.
