Imad Ashour: If we had realized the chances, the result would have been in our favor

Polesie escaped defeat at the end of the confrontation with Zorya

Mentor Polesie Imad Ashour summed up the results of the confrontation with Zorya (1:1) in the final match of the 14th round of the UPL.

“I already said in advance, I don’t remember when, but there is no point in looking for justice. In matches, in games, in life, maybe it’s the same. Because there are a lot of episodes, almost all of which are games, they are not defined today.”

“Of course, I assume that based on the game, whoever watched it, there can’t be too many questions for the guys. Except, of course, a huge desire for goals to be scored and for a more positive result. Again, everyone wants it. I also want, and I really would like today, for those episodes that we created, and those shots that we managed to deliver, and potentially dangerous situations, all to end in goals.”

“But we understand that it doesn’t work like that. I want to thank the guys, their performance today was very solid, there were a lot of very solid episodes, there were a lot of moments that we talked about in recent weeks. There was also a moment where we needed to add pressure. Moments there we needed to choose our decisions more variedly in order to find free space on the approaches to the opponent’s goal. And today there were a lot of such episodes.”

“Of course, we could have added a little in the end, that is, managed our last touches better. But until this episode occurs, until you face resistance at this moment, until you find yourself in a situation where you need to instantly make a decision. No one will ever know, and the performer will also never know what the final result of this moment will be.”

“I want to give credit to the guys; today, in my opinion, there were a lot of chances created. I don’t want to talk about fairness, I only think that if we had realized these moments, the result would have been in our favor and it would have been unlikely that there would have been a chance for the opponent, even with a goal scored, to do anything else.”

The scoring was opened in the 65th minute – Zorya forward Filipp Budkovsky scored in the goal of his former club, taking advantage of a pass from young Artem Slesar. Zarya remained in the minority in the 72nd minute – defender Roman Vantukh received a second yellow card.

Polissya took advantage of the numerical advantage six minutes before the end of regulation time – centerback Eduard Sarapiy scored his debut goal for the Zhytomyr club.

For the Zhytomyr club, this point is the only one in the last three rounds – earlier, Imad Ashur’s team lost to Alexandria (0:1) and Dynamo (1:2). Polesie now has a six-point gap from third place, which Shakhtar currently occupies.

In the next round of the Ukrainian championship, Polesie will play away against Krivbass on November 30.
