The governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, explained his remarks about corruption in Russian football and said that he did not have facts with which to contact law enforcement agencies.
Fedorishchev earlier said that one of the officials of the “Wings of the Soviets” reported a debt of 36 million rubles to criminals involved in the corruption of the Russian football refereeing body. Later, the press service of the RFU reported that the facts stated in Fedorishchev’s statement regarding the request for financing for corruption purposes constitute grounds for contacting law enforcement agencies.
— My work is linked to the socio-economic development of the region, to development in all areas. When they told me, I didn’t believe it myself, I thought they were crooks, because it was not possible that 36 million black money had been allocated to such stratagems. I began to discover that such a system actually existed. But there are no facts to support it.
— Corruption in football is a criminal matter. Have you considered contacting law enforcement?
— As I said, there are no facts with which you can contact law enforcement. These are conversations that are compiled in such a way that there is no possibility of going anywhere. But it exists, we cannot remain silent about it, we must make a decision on how to deal with it.
— Do you understand what needs to be done to get clubs to stop paying referees?
– Not clubs. Yet they turn not to the clubs, but to the governors who send taxpayers’ money to this system, to the private business partners who allocate hundreds of millions of rubles to support professional football, and to all people linked to this system. and let yourself be tempted by this system. There is no other choice when, in such mutual accountability and in the clubs, there are people who support this system, provide and receive the corresponding illegal commissions.
We have to give it up, but it’s not so easy to do, because there can be countless clubs in the top league, and those who don’t and don’t participate in this program are fewer than those who do it.
Suppose there are ten such clubs. And to really win once, you must first create decent salary conditions for the refereeing body. Even though I looked and analyzed: now the salaries are sufficient to say that judges can support themselves without thinking about external income in this system. Secondly, it is necessary to show objective information as openly and honestly as possible. And third, you just need to hire the 10 people who support the teams and not pay for corruption in the justice system. If you made such a decision once, from tomorrow this problem will no longer arise. It will metastasize, but we will not encourage this problem.
It will be our decision, that of the people who make decisions in Russian football. I am now obliged to accept this position as the government of the Samara region and founder “The Wings of the Soviets” . We are all responsible and must take full responsibility.
— Will your words affect Krylia Sovetov, since the debt of 36 million suggests that the club may participate in these corruption schemes?
— Look, we’ve made a number of personnel decisions recently. They talked about a number of decisions, but for some reason they didn’t act on them. Look: some comparisons may be appropriate,” Fedorishchev said, as quoted by RB Sport.
