The club from Bratislava kept the intrigue until the middle of the second half, but Paulo Fonseca’s team still achieved their goal
IN Bratislava the fifth round match ended Champions League 2024/25 — Slovan was defeated at home by Milan (2:3).
The Rossoneri opened the scoring midway through the first half – Christian Pulisic scored. To Slovan’s credit, he restored the status quo just three minutes later – Tigran Barseghyan scored an accurate shot.
The Slovakian club managed to hold the tie until the 68th minute, when Rafael Leão gave Milan the lead. Almost immediately, the Rossoneri scored the third goal – Tammy Abraham scored. Slovan, through the efforts of 19-year-old Nino Marcelli, reduced the gap in the score to a minimum, but failed to make a final comeback. In addition, immediately after their second goal, the hosts were left in the minority due to the sending off of Marko Tolic.
Let us note that in the 66th minute Ukrainian midfielder Daniil Ignatenko came on as a substitute for Slovan. At the same time, in all four previous Champions League matches, the Ukrainian invariably appeared in the starting lineup of the Bratislava club.
Slovan continues to be one of the main outsiders in this Champions League competition – he lost all five matches with a total score of 4:18. Milan, in turn, now has nine points to its name – Paulo Fonseca’s team has risen to intermediate tenth place in the overall standings.
In the next round of the Champions League, Slovan will visit Atlético Madrid on December 11, and Milan will host Red Star at home on the same day.
