Suleiman: I would like to see Dubois meet the winner of the Usyk-Fury rematch

WBC open to unification fight

WBC President Mauricio Suleiman said that he would not interfere with the holding of a unification fight for the title of absolute world champion between the winner of the second confrontation between the former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and holder of the WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO titles Alexandra Usika (22-0, 14 KOs) with the current IBF world champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs).

“We are not promoters, so we cannot promote fights, but the WBC has always supported unification fights and especially if the undisputed title is on the line. I would like to see Dubois face the winner of the Usyk-Fury rematch. This will be a sensational fight.”

“We have to try to make better confrontations. This is the purpose of our organization’s existence. There is no point in appointing a mandatory candidate now.”

Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua on September 21 in London. Daniel defended the IBF champion title, which he received after Alexander Usyk abandoned him. This fight set a new record for the largest number of spectators in the 21st century for a boxing match – the boxing evening at Wembley Stadium in London was attended by 98,128 people.

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn previously stated that the fight contract included a rematch option. However, Bob Arum denied this statement, calling it “fiction.” Subsequently, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al al-Sheikh, said that a rematch between Dubois and Joshua could take place on February 22 in Riyadh as part of the previously announced 5-on-5 event between Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing.

As recently reported, Dubois expects to defend his title in February 2025, as the IBF will oblige the boxer to do so. However, a potential unification fight for the title of absolute world champion could adjust plans. Therefore, Daniel is awaiting the outcome of the fight between WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight world champion Alexander Usik and former WBC belt holder Tyson Fury (date – December 21), counting on a fight with the winner of this megafight.

Let us remember that on the night of May 18-19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option.

The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.

At the end of October, the first press conference and duel of the boxers’ views took place in London. Usik appeared in public to the song “Ave Maria” in the extravagant image of the hero of the computer game series Hitman. Fury came out to the song “Barbie Girl.” The event was hosted by legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer.
