Ex-Manchester City player Kavelashvili will run for President of Georgia

He represents the ruling Georgian Dream party.

Famous former football player for Manchester City, Basel and the Georgian national team Mikhail Kavelashvili will run for office President of Georgia.

He represents the ruling Georgian Dream party. In 2016, Kavelashvili was elected to the Parliament of Georgia from this political force.

The presidential elections in Georgia will take place on December 14, and the inauguration is planned for December 29. The new president will be chosen for the first time by a panel consisting of 300 people: 150 deputies of the new parliament and 150 regional delegates.

Kavelashvili is known for his performances for a number of Georgian clubs, Manchester City and several teams in Switzerland, including Zurich and Basel. Kavelashvili played more than 40 matches for the Georgian national team, scoring nine goals.

Mikhail is not the first ex-football player of the Georgian national team to go into politics. Let us remind you that former Dynamo and Milan football player Kakhaber Kaladze is the mayor of Tbilisi.
