The promoter has confirmed that AJ plans to return to the ring in May or June
Promoter Eddie Hearn expects that within 2025 his ward, the former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) will have two fights with the former WBC champion belt holder Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
“I think Fury vs AJ is going to happen anyway, to be honest. People tell me, “AJ won’t rematch Dubois” – that’s not true. AJ will not rematch Dubois on February 22nd; but he still wants to fight him. AJ will be back in May or June and it could be against Daniel Dubois, still Dubois’ biggest fight. But we also understand that the fight with Fury is something monstrous.”
“Whether Fury wins or loses [против Усика 21 декабря]I think these two should fight twice next year. But if Fury can do that, then Fury versus AJ for the unified heavyweight title would be huge.”
It was previously reported that Joshua’s representatives intend to wait for the outcome of the rematch between Fury and WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight world champion Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs) before taking further steps.
According to information that appeared in mid-November, IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) is also counting on a fight with the winner of the head-to-head confrontation between the Ukrainian and the “Gypsy King”.
Let us remind you that Dubois defeated Joshua in a fight that took place in London on September 21. Daniel knocked down AJ three times and knocked out his opponent in the fifth round. Dubois defended the IBF title, which he received after Oleksandr Usyk abandoned it.
In October, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al al-Sheikh, said that a rematch between Dubois and Joshua could take place on February 22 in Riyadh. The fight could take place as part of the “5 on 5” event between Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing, which was previously announced by Al ash-Sheikh in February.
Usyk is preparing for a rematch with Fury at a training camp in Valencia. The Ukrainian said that he involves scientists, psychologists in the training process, and is constantly looking for suitable sparring partners. Last week, the “Gypsy King” announced the start of his training camp in Malta.
The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
