Slot: The Champions League has a very strange scheme. It’s hard to judge how important these victories are

Liverpool were the first to reach the Champions League knockout stages

Head coach Liverpool Arne Slot commented on the victory over Real Madrid (2:0) in the fifth round of the group stage Champions League.

“We controlled the first half and created several chances. We were still a little careless and we were losing the ball in really easy situations or forcing it too much.”

“I think it’s always good to win a game and especially a big game like this because you know you’re up against so many quality players. For me it will mean even more if we go into the later stages of the tournament because it is such a strange and different setup in the Champions League that it is difficult to judge how important these victories are.”

“If we get to the round of 16, the quarter-finals, or wherever we can get to, and we face them again and then we can beat them, that would probably be a bigger statement than that. But we are certainly satisfied with the victory.”

Liverpool became the first club to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2024/25 Champions League. Arne Slot’s team won five games in five games.

On December 10, Liverpool will play an away match with Girona of Ukrainian Viktor Tsygankov. Next, Arne Slot’s team will have matches against Lille and PSV.
