The team also found a place for representatives of Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern and even Red Star
UEFA determined the symbolic team of the week (5th round) Champions League 2024/25.
The goalkeeping position went to Liverpool goalkeeper Quivin Kelleher, who kept the goal intact in the 2-0 home win over Real Madrid, notably saving a penalty from Kylian Mbappe.
Another representative of Arne Slot’s team was included in the national team – midfielder Alexis McAllister, who scored the winning goal against the Blancos. A place in defense was found for Ukrainian Alexander Zinchenko’s teammate, Jurrien Timber from Arsenal, whose assist started the away defeat of Sporting (5:1).
In the attack group, there was a place for all four of the main heroes of the week – Malik Tillman from PSV (the author of the double for Shakhtar in Wednesday’s incredible comeback), forwards Mateo Retegui (Atalanta) and Julian Alvarez (Atlético), who also scored two goals each, as well as Bayer midfielder Florian Virtsu, who for the second time this season was recognized as the best player of the tour in the Champions League.
Team of the 5th round of the Champions League: Quivin Kelleher (Liverpool) – Jurrien Timber (Arsenal), Pau Kubarsi (Barcelona), Kim Min-jae (Bayern), Rami Bensebaini (Borussia Dortmund) – Alexis McAllister (Liverpool), Rade Krunic (Red Star), Malik Tillman (PSV) – Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen) – Mateo Retegui (Atalanta), Julian Alvarez (Atlético)

The top 8 (places of direct access to the 1/8 finals) also includes Inter, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal and Monaco. Shakhtar is in 26th place (two positions below the playoff zone).
