Los Angeles declined to activate Vela’s contract extension option but continues to negotiate with the player over his future.

Over the entire last season, the 35-year-old Mexican spent only five minutes on the field

Los Angeles refused to activate the contract option with the Mexican winger Carlos Vela.

However, the club are still in talks with the 35-year-old about his future, who may remain at the club in a different role.

Vela joined Los Angeles in 2018, becoming a true club legend, winning the league title in the 2022 MLS campaign. Following the results of the next championship in 2023, Carlos left the team, but during the 2024 campaign he returned again, signing a contract until the end of the year with an option to extend for the 2025 season.

The return to Los Angeles was not very successful for Vela. During the entire 2024 season, he entered the field only once, spending five minutes in a confrontation with Vancouver (2:1).

Before his MLS career, Carlos Vela played in Europe for Osasuna, Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Real Sociedad. The Mexican left a significant mark on the San Sebastian club, having played for 6.5 seasons.

Los Angeles itself has already officially completed the current season, having been eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Seattle, losing to it in a penalty shootout.
