Benn is finally cleared and could return to the ring in February

At the beginning of next year, the long-awaited fight between Conor and Eubank Jr., which did not take place in 2022 due to a failed doping test, may take place

British middleweight boxer Conor Benn finally acquitted in a long-standing anti-doping case and could return to the ring in the near future.

Let us remember that more than two years ago, in October 2022, Benn’s fight with Chris Eubank Jr. was canceled due to Conor’s positive doping test. Clomiphene was found in the boxer’s blood, and he was threatened with a ban from participating in fights for up to four years.

At the end of July 2023, Benn was cleared by the National Anti-Doping Commission (NADP). The Briton returned to the ring in September and defeated Mexican boxer Rodolfo Orozco. But the suspension was then reinstated following a successful appeal by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).

In early November 2024, the NADP again overturned the 28-year-old boxer’s suspension, saying they were “not entirely satisfied” that UKAD had proven that Benn had violated anti-doping rules. After careful consideration of all the circumstances, BBBoC and UKAD decided not to appeal. True, WADA, the world anti-doping body, has the right to appeal the decision.

In the near future, the boxer’s license, which was previously taken away by the BBBoC, should be restored, and he will again be able to officially compete in the UK. Benn plans to return in February 2025 with a fight against the same Eubank Jr.

“In my opinion, this is one of the biggest fights in British history. It’s about history. It’s about legacy. This is the fight the public wants. It’s been two years now and I don’t think it’s gone out of people’s minds in those two years, for better or worse,” Conor said.

Negotiations about this fight are ongoing. Another possible option for Benn in the new year could be a fight with Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title (up to 147 pounds).
