Chairman of the board of directors of a football club “Zenith” Alexander Medvedev commenting on the statement of the governor of the Samara region Vyacheslav Fedorishchev Regarding corruption in Russian football’s referee corps, said the St. Petersburg club has always been committed to the principles of clean sport.
On Tuesday, Fedorishchev said that one of the Krylia Sovetov officials informed him of a debt of 36 million rubles to “criminals involved in the corruption of the Russian football refereeing body.” The head of the region proposed organizing a campaign under the flag and hashtag “Clean Sport” and announced on Wednesday that a public movement with the same name would be created in the near future.
On Thursday, an extraordinary meeting of RPL clubs was held in Moscow, following which the league sent a letter to Fedorishchev asking him to provide available information on allegations of corruption in professional football. The RPL also requested an investigation and declared itself ready to launch an appeal to the police to identify the perpetrators. Fedorishchev responded by saying he had passed the information on to law enforcement.
— Do you support the “Clean Sports” initiative?
— We have always lived and worked in the category of pure sport.
– So nothing changes?
“Nothing changes for us.”
— Does what is happening now surprise you?
“Let’s let law enforcement sort this out.” “I react to this with absolute calm,” Medvedev told .
