Schick’s goal brought three points to the champion
Bayer achieved a difficult away victory over Union in the match of the 12th round of the German Bundesliga – 2:1.
The defending champion opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. Once again, the full-back combination played effectively: Jeremie Frimpong scored from Alejandro Grimaldo’s pass. The hosts got even at the end of half an hour – the goal was scored by Korean midfielder Chung Woo Yong.
Shortly after the break, Xabi Alonso released his leader Florian Wirtz onto the field. This move had an effect 13 minutes later: the midfielder provided Patrik Schick with an assist. In the remaining time, Bayer played the score wisely, not allowing the opponent to shoot on target even once.
Thanks to their labor victory, the pharmacists rose to 3rd place, beating the completely collapsed Leipzig. Union dropped to 11th place.
On Tuesday, December 3, Bayer will play away against Bayern in the 1/8 finals of the German Cup, and four days later will host St. Pauli in the championship. Union will have an away match against Stuttgart on Friday.
