Shandruk: We have a clear task – to avoid the fight for survival and transitional matches. Anything higher will be considered a success.

The Rivne coach is pleased with the away victory over LNZ and the progress of the team, which has not lost since mid-September

Acting head coach Veresa Oleg Shandruk commented on his team’s strong-willed away victory over LNZ (2:1) in the 15th round Ukrainian Premier League.

“It’s nice to win on the road. We continued our positive unbeaten streak. I am grateful to my team. I’m pleased with how the guys worked on the field.”

“Football is a game of mistakes. It is not always possible to control the course of all events on the field. I don’t want to comment on my opponent’s mistakes. I will talk about my team, which came out today, really wanted to win and won.”

“Seventh place in the standings? We don’t grab stars from the sky. We understand where we are now. We understand that we are building a new team. And we have a clear task ahead of us – to avoid the fight for survival and transitional matches. Anything higher will be considered success. And, in my opinion, the team is coping with this now. I see progress. It’s important that we continue to improve like this from game to game.”

“Yes, we play energy-intensive football. But the realities of modern football are such that with any strategy and tactical scheme you need to endure ninety minutes at a very intense pace. Today in the last ten minutes we were too close to our goal. And the opponent forced us, and we ourselves began to play according to the score. These ten minutes of aggression on the opposing side of the field were not enough.”

Let us remind you that today in Cherkasy Veres missed the first goal (LNZ leader Muharrem Yashari scored), but then Brazilian winger Luan Campos got down to business. In the 39th minute he converted a penalty, and in the 76th minute he brought his team victory after Shota Nonikashvili’s cut.

Veres extended the unbeaten streak to nine matches and rose to seventh position in the UPL.

In 2024, Shandruk’s team has two matches left to play, both on the road. On December 7, the Rivne club will fight with Karpaty, and 9 days later it will confront the championship leader, Dynamo Kyiv.
