Shishchenko: It’s a shame to lose a victory in the last seconds, but football is unpredictable

Obolon drew with Left Bank, conceding in stoppage time

Head coach Obolon Sergey Shishchenko upset that his team lost the victory in the match with LNZ (1:1) in the 15th round UPL.

“I’m dissatisfied because it’s very disappointing to lose a victory in the last seconds. But this is football, and what makes it interesting is that it is unpredictable. Such moments happen in football, in sports. I’m grateful to the guys for their attitude, for the game, for what we agreed on.”

“We knew what the game would be like – more like this in martial arts, in wrestling. We had to win this fight. We were somehow better than our opponents in this regard, but, unfortunately, we could not achieve what we wanted – victory.”

We worked on standards in training, and not only them. We thought that we would have chances and worked on how we acted defensively. But you see, the last corner was missed somewhere. This is football, this is sport.”

“We will analyze it, we need to move forward, we need to forget this game, because there are two more matches in the first part of the championship. I believe that the struggle is ahead, we are still in the game, because there are still a lot of matches, there will be a lot of emotions – both good and not so good.”

“It’s very good that Valera Dubko scored, because we work a lot on set pieces in training. Therefore, he is also one of the figures working to score goals from set pieces. I’m very glad that it happened this way. I’m very grateful to him that he played to the end in this moment.”

“I understand the emotions both on our part and the emotions of the Left Bank players, because everyone understood what kind of match it was – for 6 points, either we or the Left Bank would immediately lead. That’s why there were such emotions. I told the guys before the game that it would be a very difficult game – and that’s what happened.”

Obolon managed to score seconds before the break; defender Valery Dubko scored his first goal in the UPL. Left Bank escaped defeat in second-half stoppage time, Andrey Yakymiv scored.

The Brewers are in penultimate place in the UPL with 10 points. In the next round, Obolon will play against Kolos on December 8.
