Bruno Lage’s team climbed to second place in the Portuguese Championship table
The match of the 12th round has ended Portuguese Championship — Benfica won a landslide victory over Aroucoy (2:0).
The scoring in the match was opened already in the 12th minute – Arouca defender Jose Fontan scored an own goal. Midway through the second half, Benfica doubled their lead as Angel Di Maria converted a penalty.
Benfica’s Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin, as usual, was in the starting lineup and played a clean sheet. This dry match was the seventh of the season for the Ukrainian (in 17 meetings held).
Thanks to today’s victory, Benfica overtook Porto and moved up to second place in the standings. Its gap from the leading Sporting is five points (at the same time, Benfica has a game in hand).
Bruno Lage’s team will play their next match on December 7 at home against Vitoria Guimaraes.
