The miners missed out on victory in the last minutes in the UPL round 15 match against Rukh (1:1)
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on the draw against Ruha (1:1) in the 15th round match UPL.
“It’s important to be disappointed in moments like this. If we don’t experience disappointment after results like today, and in games where we lose a lead in the final minutes, we won’t learn the lessons we need to learn. Of course, I am pleased with the way the team played – we could have taken our chances better and won the match much earlier. But we are also talking about the need to be able to defend a result like 1:0. Unfortunately, we were unable to do this today. As I noted, we must be disappointed. And we really feel it today. There are new games ahead, so we will prepare for them and learn from this.”
“Speaking about today’s game, in some moments we lacked sharpness, originality and awareness of the importance of today’s match and today’s victory. Of course, as I already noted, when we are talking about a result like 1:0, it leaves room for the opponent to maneuver and the opportunity to win back. Actually, we didn’t have enough of this sharpness, decisiveness and extremeness in the game in the last minutes.”
“I think we played a very good first half, also in terms of our possession. Of course, it was a little more difficult to break their block because the opponent was playing with more players at the back. This also created additional stress on us. They managed to intercept the ball several times, but such interceptions did not lead to any extremely sharp moments in the performance of our opponent. Therefore, I will emphasize once again that 1:0 is a result that sometimes you need to be able to defend and defend. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed today, so this is what we have.”
Considering Dynamo’s misfire today in the match with Kolos (1:1), Shakhtar missed the opportunity to reduce the gap from first place to four points.
The miners are still third in the standings with 30 points. The leading Dynamo and Alexandria have 36 each.
Shakhtar will play its next match on December 5 against Vorskla.
